Think a small liberal arts college and conservatory of music would be right for your student? Add Oberlin College to your visit list. Located in Ohio with only 2900 students, it was the first college to grant bachelor’s degrees to women in a coeducational environment.
Oberlin’s Multicultural Visit Program (MVP), an all-expenses-paid weekend visit program for high-achieving high school seniors, offers several weekend programs this fall for students to get to see first hand what life on the campus is like. They stay in residence halls, tour the campus, visit classes, attend admissions and financial aid workshops, and meet current students, professors, and staff. Check out the deadlines below to apply below.
Program Date Application Deadline
October 8-10 September 14
November 12-14 October 19
December 3-5 November 9
Oberlin’s MVP encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, including Black or African-American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Hispanic/Latino(a), or Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander students. To support socio-economic diversity, the selection committee will also consider students from families with limited financial resources, regardless of cultural or racial background, as well as those who are among the first in their families to attend college (first-generation).
There is an essay component to the application. Be prepared to answer the following in 500 words or less: Since 1835 Oberlin has been a leader in diversity, becoming the first school in the nation to admit African Americans and adopting a policy to admit students regardless of race or gender. Knowing this, what do you feel you can contribute to Oberlin’s community and commitment to diversity?
While students will be staying in residence halls, they should be prepared to sleep on a dorm room floor, and should bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and toiletries. They also recommend you bring a warm coat/jacket and other accessories for cold weather (it is Ohio in the fall/winter afterall).
