Update 5/17: Deadline has been extended to 5/31

For the artist-in-training, they will want to apply to Ryman Arts program. The non-profit organization offers professional studio art classes with college and career guidance, free of charge, to talented youth who want to pursue a future in the arts. Students are challenged with rigorous drawing and painting classes and mentored by working artists.

Students have a choice of a choice of attending 3 ½-hour classes on California State University, Fullerton on Saturdays or Otis College of Art and Design on Sundays for two 12-week sessions a year. The program includes discussions with visiting artists, field trips and college planning/career guidance workshops. Each accepted student receives a full scholarship that covers the cost of instruction, art supplies, field trips and public transportation reimbursement. Deadline to apply 2016 Fall semester is May 20, 2016. Deadline to apply for the 2017 Spring semester is December 2, 2016.

The application process is competitive and includes:
– Application form (can be filled out online or mailed in)
– 1 page essay (can be submitted online or mailed in)
– Two pencil graphite drawings done from observation (must be submitted by mail or hand delivered)

If your student is unsure of what drawing to submit, have them check out Application Day at Cal State Fullerton on April 30, 2016.
