Free Film School Offered to High School Students

If your student has a keen interest in filmmaking, they’ll want to apply to the Ghetto Film School Fellows Program.  Ghetto Film School is accepting high school students from New York and Los Angeles for their 2017 – 2019 Fellows Program, deadline is March 15, 2017.

The Fellows Program is an award-winning, 30-month immersion in cinematic storytelling and production training for high school students ages 14 – 18. Students receive college-level instruction from leading filmmakers and industry experts, visit live sets and studios, and even have the opportunity to shoot films abroad. All free of charge!

LA Applicants must be available to participate in classes this summer,10 AM-5 PM, Monday, June 19 – Thursday, August 10. This is a 30-month commitment. Please see their downloadable schedule for more information.

In addition, students and instructors oftentimes spend weekends and evenings at GFS when additional time is necessary. Students should not apply to this program if they are bound to any prior summer engagements. Perfect attendance is mandatory. The Fellows Program is an intensive and challenging program requiring an exceptionally high level of commitment from all participants.

​Applications are due Wednesday, March 15. Qualifying students will participate in a 30-minute professional interview session sometime between Wednesday, April 12 – Saturday, April 15. The interview will take place at HOLA (2701 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 100, Los Angeles, 90057, at LaFayette Park Pl & Rampart Blvd).

Required Orientation & Information Session for all accepted applicants will take place on Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 at HOLA. Each prospective student must attend this meeting accompanied by a parent or guardian.
