Free Drumming and Music Video Production Classes

CITYstageCitystage Drumming Class at ArtShare offers free classes for students ages 11-18 (Grades 6-12) and are taught by top teaching artists who have built successful careers in the performing arts. Deadline to enroll is January 16, 2016.

The spring semester starts January 23 and students can register for:

World Drumming & Dance
Explore the world through drumming, dance, and song! Taught by Teaching Artist James Waterman and top CITYstage dance instructors, World Drumming & Dance brings together music and dance traditions of many African and Latin American cultures into a high-energy, exciting performance.

Music Video Production
Music Video Production leads students through the start to finish process of creating a song and music video. Students will work with a series of Teaching Artists including Efa Etoroma (Music Production), Chris Marcos (Choreography), and Sarah Leibman (Video Production) to write an original song, stage and choreograph a production number for a music video, and then film their student-produced music video for the world to see!

Schedule: Classes will be held every Saturday from January 23rd through May 21st with the exception of the weekends surrounding Spring Break. The Saturday schedule is as follows:
  • 9:30am – 10:00am: Group Welcome & Warm-Up
  • 10:00am – 11:00am: World Drumming & Dance Class
  • 11:00am – 12:00pm: Music Video Production Class
All classes culminate in a dress rehearsal and performance on May 21st at Art Share L.A.. The Spring 2016 performance will be an original show created during the semester using the ideas and contributions of CITYstage students at ArtShare L.A. and the CITYstage Leadership Academy.
Students are highly encouraged to sign up for both classes, but registration for both is not required.
